How to Come Up with a Business Name – 10 Naming a Business Stories

Years ago, a mentor did an exercise with me where he asked me: “How do you make your clients heroic?” We discussed the many ways that I was seeking to fulfill that mission. He asked me to pull out a crisp sheet of paper and draw a heart on the right side of the paper. After hours of discussion, the three words that rang true for that mission: Enjoy Life Daily. They fit neatly inside the heart on the right side of the page. (Fun fact: Years later, I still have the sheet of paper.)

That heart and those words are symbolic of the heart I choose to support my entrepreneurial clients within their businesses. It’s a great daily reminder I have to share with entrepreneurs (and myself).

14 Ways to Boost Sales Through Clear Business Branding

Create a consistent playlist. In a world of shorter attention spans, companies need to focus their attention on clear, concise, consistent communication. Many small businesses share different messages in their communication. Observe your communication on your website, presentations, company collateral, and sales messages. While slightly different communication might sound similar to you, your ideal prospects may be confused because they hear something different.

Take a page out of the big brands guidebook. Create a list of consistent “playlist” phrases about your company. Practice sharing that “playlist” consistently. When you share consistently, others you share your “playlist” with can become walking billboards for your company. Big brands are diligent in creating their own “playlists.” Starbucks uses tall, grande, and venti, not small, medium, and large.

I share with my clients regularly, “If you think you are being redundant, you aren’t (being redundant).”  Create a consistent “playlist” and stand out.

What will the workplace look like post-COVID?

How much excess capacity exists in current commercial buildings? Most commercial buildings sit vacant for 12 hours out of the working day until the next day begins and 24 hours a day on weekends. If we are collectively reinventing what the new world looks like, we don’t have to use old models that no longer serve the greater good. The co-working model has been gaining ground with entrepreneurs for years. That same entrepreneurial thinking can guide the way for new spaces to optimize the space they need. As a result, we can streamline and maximize the buildings that exist.

10 Productivity Tips For Digital Marketers To Save Time

Strategy work (for marketing, branding, selling, product development, etc.) takes deep concentration. There is significant research that states it typically takes 20-30 minutes to recover from each distraction. Each ding or ring on your phone causes you to lose concentration. Switching your brain, from strategy work to a sales call, to a financial question, back to strategy requires acclimation time. Too often, I hear entrepreneurs end their day saying “I know I worked all day and yet I’m not quite sure what I did.” Create boundaries to prioritize your day and consistently point the business needle towards growth goals.

15 Tasks To Delegate To Improve Productivity

Spending hours making a design look right, from the fonts to the colors and images, can take unnecessary time from your business. The key to improving productivity is to invest the time to document, before delegating. Interestingly, all design starts with descriptions. Documenting the main attributes of your brand will pay “delegation dividends” in the future when you easily delegate to a designer. They will love you for it and you will get items that represent your brand. Many business owners give no clear documentation or direction when delegating. This is where many owners struggle. If you haven’t clarified and documented it yourself, the designer will have a difficult time with what it’s supposed to look like. After documenting my brand, I was able to delegate to a designer and she stepped into her design gifts. She and I have been working wonderfully together for over 4 years.

9 Upsell Tips To Convert Free Trial Users

Truly Listen and Understand. Do deep research by listening and understanding what your ideal customer needs. Strategically map out the entire buyer’s experience so your upsell process builds on the benefits of the free trial. By first connecting and appreciating your ideal customer’s needs, the wrong customers say “no” and your ideal customers say “yes.” By precisely mapping out the upsell experience your business operates much more efficiently because the “wrong” customers aren’t challenging and stressing your company systems. As a result, you and your team can focus on refining the upsell process to drive even more ideal customers. Doing the strategic work up front by listening, understanding and mapping creates more upsells.

How do I get started using Terkel?

Be Consistent. Decide on 1–2 questions a week that make sense for your specialty, and don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to answer too many questions. After deciding on the questions, compile concepts in a document to solidify your ideas. Invest time to write out, revise your message to put your “best grammatical foot forward.” I write, rewrite, and edit.

I post it on Terkel and read through my answer one more time to fine-tune before clicking submit. I carve out time (sometimes as much as 45 minutes per question) and that investment has yielded over 30 articles published in under a year. I highly recommend investing the time in Terkel, which can expose you to different audiences highlighting your expertise. It’s worth it. Simply start and be consistent.

14 Risks That Are Worth Taking

After growing up in Pittsburgh, PA, I left on January 20, 2002, to venture out west. I wanted to challenge my comfort zone and take on a new adventure. I loved my family and friends and left the known for the unknown. Moving from the East coast to the West coast mentally, I found it took me about 6 months to hit my stride at business, with friends and the new experiences in my new hometown. As a car guy, I enjoyed seeing all the modified cars and enjoyed waking up to the sun, virtually every day; a big change from the 300 days of clouds I was used to. The easy path, or the more challenging path…it’s our choice. While the easy path is much more comfortable, the challenging path is filled with adventure and amazing insights about ourselves.

15 Tips for Being More Present at Work

Practice using your “presence muscle” by exercising it regularly through meditation.  Visualize meditation as a snow globe where one simply lets the “snow come to rest.”  A consistent meditative practice in the morning and/or evening where you take deep, calm breaths, will allow you to experience yourself, and your reactions in the moment during those situations that arise throughout your day. As a result, you can meet those situations with calm presence and dissolve them like snow. Long before any athlete scores the game-winning shot, they practice that shot over and over again. Practicing presence day after day will help you win in more moments inside your day.

11 Best Business Advice For First Time Entrepreneurs

Create Daily Business Intentions. Entrepreneurs can see clear mile marketers towards their goals by intentionally focusing on specific business aspects on specific days. I call it “Category Days.” As a result, they feel more accomplished and have a deeper sense of having completed something each day.

10 Time Saving Tips For Small Business Owners

Silence your phone and put it in another room so you aren’t tempted to check it. Your brain is being hi-jacked with every beep, chirp, or buzz of your phone. 10 Things Small Businesses Should Outsource To Save Time & Money
Identify Redundant, Low Value Tasks. A valuable exercise is to identify where you are spending your time each day/week. If you work several hours on low value tasks on a daily (or weekly basis), ask yourself “is this the highest use of my time?” If not, take the time to document what you do, batch the tasks and delegate them to your team. To help ‘sell yourself’ on outsourcing, clarify how much your time is worth (e.g. $100/hr, 250/hr, $500/hr, …more?) When you clarify your “time value” and you see what you are paying yourself to do low value tasks, you’ll quickly outsource. As a result, you’ll find your team doing it faster AND cheaper than you. This will free you to invest more in areas that ARE the highest use of your time.

When you communicate back what you heard, your company will stand out amongst a sea of sameness in the marketplace. Clients will end up selling themselves because you have reflected back what they communicated and are delivering exactly what they need.

12 Stress Management tips for Business owners
My day begins a little after 5:00 am with mindset routines to prepare myself for what may come up throughout the day. I have practiced meditation, yoga, and journaling for over 10 years. Meditation helps to clear my mind and practice presence. I strive to carry that presence in each interaction throughout my day. I discovered yoga in 2003 and it’s my go-to exercise because yoga has no scoreboard; it’s simply me and my mat. Lastly, I began journaling in 2008 to capture gratitude, clarify challenges and celebrate wins. These mindset routines prepare me for the rest of the day, where I track and “keep score” for things pertinent to my business.

What Is the Life of an Entrepreneur Like?

Redefining Comparison and Defining Daily Success Habits. Don’t fall into the comparison trap after you have a few challenging weeks/months/or even years where you feel “unsuccessful” in your business. Instead, observe your comparison habit. Are you comparing your perceived, “lack of success,” to others’ perceived, “social posting success”? Once you observe and see how difficult this habit is for your life and business, redefine comparison and make it impossible to achieve. What you’ll observe in most cases, is that when you compare your success to others, you know less than 90-99% of the real details of their life. Make comparisons only possible if you know every single detail of those you wish to compare to, which is impossible. Redefining comparison in your life is liberating and you can define your daily success habits to true success and contentment for you, regardless of your balance sheet or P&L.

9 types of email marketing campaigns to consider sending

Years ago, after listening to many prospects inside of a specific industry, I heard a very consistent phrase, month after month. It didn’t matter if I was talking to someone in Seattle, or Pennsylvania, or New Mexico… this consistent phrase was said the same way across the various roles, inside this specific industry.
