“Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Do not bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.”
― William Faulkner

The best way to improve your career, your sales, your business, your life in general, is to improve YOU first.

You’re busy, you have so many things that you have to take care of, but you’re forgetting to take care of yourself first. By working on self improvement, you become more valuable to your clients, your coworkers, your family, and even yourself because you continue to improve daily. Remember that humans, by nature, seek growth in order to feel fulfilled.

Added Value

To “add value” to others, you must first be a person that others respect, look up to, and admire.

  • Be the role model to show, not tell, others.
  • Be the teacher to those who do not understand.
  • Be the change you wish to see in others.

Remember that people can sense if you are genuine in what you teach and what you offer to them. Let’s take a closer look at what Merriam-Webster has to say about that word:

gen·u·ine : actual, real, or true : not false or fake

Being genuine means that you have personally experienced or researched such topics and facts related to your service or product and can confidently provide them valid information, answers, and solutions. Being false or fake shows others that you are not to be trusted and that what you say cannot be taken at face value – strive to be genuine in your mission, in what you say, and in how you act.

YOU

It is vitally important to work on you first. A great demonstration is the pre-flight checklist on an airplane. Instructions state: “If the masks come down due to an unexpected change in cabin pressure, install yours first and then assist the person next to you.” You cannot assist others if you are not taken care of first. This includes your professional work; you cannot continue to serve clients from the same knowledge and skills. If you want your client to try new things and evolve the way they do things, you will have to be open to learning and evolving first.

To help clients with the ever-changing landscape of today, you must be able to navigate through it yourself. You don’t have to be an expert in every area, but it is to your advantage and your client’s advantage when you can offer extended knowledge as it relates to social media, technology, and the industry are interested.

With additional knowledge, you can offer creative solutions to your clients that they might not have thought of. You offer them your experience and knowledge so that they may grow as well. The more you go above and beyond, the more value you will have to offer them and the more value they will offer back to you.

When you know your reason “why,” you will be much more successful and fulfilled. Once you determine the areas of need and growth and why they are important, break these goals down into simple daily action steps.

Remember: A little time to work on your self improvement each day pays huge dividends much more quickly than you’d expect.

For Example

Veronica, a sales representative, decides that with the downturn of the economy, she needs to become better at her job. She realizes that it is out of her control that her clients are cutting their huge budgets. So, she evaluated what she can control, including her mindset, knowledge of the market, effectiveness of new technologies, and sales strategies.

Going back to the basics, she sets out to learn more about the things she can control. She might even take a few moments to just breathe and refocus her mind. In her attempt to develop new skills, and gain more knowledge, she discovers that she is much more equipped to meet her current needs and goals.

Quick Tip

There are plenty of things you can do individually or in groups to help yourself become a better you. You can read several popular selling books like: How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie, or Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. There are various meetup groups that allow you access to meetings that will help you discover various disciplines and fields of knowledge that interest you. There are plenty of experts online or on audio programs (Tony Robbins, Jim Rohn, Andy Andrews, etc.) that you can follow to receive a message in a way that resonates with you.

If you would like a recording I did on to help eliminate overwhelm, include that in the message on https://enjoylifedaily.com/contact-us/

I encourage you to enjoy life daily.
